Tired of trying to replicate the Canon color science in Capture One?

The Canon EOS R1 Canon Capture One profiles emulate the Canon Picture Styles in the Canon Raw developing software Digital Photo Professional (DPP). The ICC profiles for Capture One are an invaluable timesaver for anyone who want’s their photos to stand out with beautiful, punchy and natural colors in any lighting scenario. With the Canon EOS R1 Capture One profiles your RAW photos will have Canon’s cherished color science in a breeze!

I use the industry standard color target Calibrate colorchecker Digital SG, whose 144 color patches produce profiles with a rich color palette and a smooth and beautiful tonality, rendering portraits natural, true to life skin tones and at the same time yielding a bold and rich color palette to textiles and garments.

To make my outdoor profiles, Camera Portrait Daylight and Camera Portrait Twilight, the Calibrate colorchecker Digital SG is photographed on bright sunny day at high noon. At this time of day, when the sun is at its highest point, the sunlight is evenly balanced across all wavelengths, rendering the purest white light while suppressing scattered light, which ensures the best possible color accuracy and true to life rendering of colors, essential for landscape and architecture photographers.

My Camera Portrait Tungsten and Indoor profile is made in a completely dark studio setting, where I photograph the Calibrate colorchecker Digital illuminated by state of the art Luxli Cello² lights. Two lights are placed at exactly the same distance and angle on either side of the colorchecker, with the camera mounted above on a rock-solid Kaiser copy stand. This setup provides a totally even illumination of the colorchecker, which is necessary for an optimal capture of the image to make the camera profile. The Luxli Cello² lights output 1490 lux at a distance of 3 feet and have a TLCI of 98 and CRI of 96, ensuring optimal color reproduction in artificial light conditions.

The Canon EOS R1 Canon Capture One profiles prioritise ease of use and speediness. Only a couple of minor quick adjustments in Capture One are needed and no tweaking of colors: First load the Canon Picture Style profile and then – if needed – adjust the exposure and Levels adjustments – that’s it!
